Unfortunately, light pollution in Germany has increased in recent years (despite rising energy costs) so dramatically that astrophotography from urban areas is virtually impossible. What's left is to escape into the wilderness, to climb a mountain as far away as possible from the lights of the city to be able to observe the starry sky undisturbed. In Germany, however, this is also only possible with restrictions. On the other hand, you can find very good skies on the Canary Islands of La Palma and Tenerife, for example.

Almost all of my astrophotos are taken in the northern Black Forest. A 20 minute drive takes me to an altitude of approx. 400m and acceptable conditions, a 45 minutes drive to an altitude of around 900m and good conditions. The equipment must therefore be transportable without too much effort.

My current equipment consists of: Software:
  • MaximDL 6 PRO
  • CCDStack
  • TheSky V6
  • Adobe Photoshop 2023
  • Pixinsight
